Hurricane Irma Was Bad, A Bad Roof Contractor Can Make It Worse!

homeworkpicStrong storms bring out the roofing and other construction scams and ripoffs in force. With Georgia and Florida recently subjected to Hurricane Irma’s wrath, not only will affected home and building owners have to deal with the damage left behind, those looking to take advantage of the situation will descend upon our fair states like never before.

Bad construction, including roofing, isn’t always due to the outright criminals. Many people, some with the best of intentions, are simply not qualified or able to provide the quality needed to withstand the next storm.  As a result, many homeowners will come out of this disaster, unconscionably worse. And the thousands of temporary roof companies long gone after reconstruction, most will be left holding the bag and having to shell out of their own pockets to correct it.

After such an event, people understandably want to get the job done as quick as possible and move on. It’s this instinct that criminals prey on. Especially when you’re being told you’ll have to live with temporary repairs such as tarp for weeks or longer, one can be tempted to grab the first roofer to come along that looks like they know what they are doing. This is a mistake.

Year after year, the Better Business Bureau is inundated with complaints about roof installations, especially scams and poor installation.

You can avoid these scams by doing just a little homework!

1) If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

2) If they push you for an immediate decision, just say NO!

3) Never allow someone you don’t know (especially if they just showed up to your door) up on your roof.

4) Obtain bids from at least 3 different roof contractors you find

5) Do your due diligence on any roof contractor (Check the Better Business Bureau, online reviews, websites, etc)

6) Read our “Do Your Homework” section for more information on how you can check out your roof contractor and be assured you are hiring a legitimate company.

Scammers, bad roofers, even some legitimate start-ups  can cause more damage to your roof (and wallet) in the form of shoddy work, cheap materials, property damage, and delays then the original problem!

Don’t Fall Prey To Criminals & Incompetence! Know Your Roof Contractor!

The last thing victims of natural disasters need, is to be ripped off but it happens. Don’t let it happen to you!
